Details
This is such a pretty wine. You can really see the fragrance and gentle cherry fruit that Tumbarumba is famous for, with a subtle minty spiciness and elegant tannins that all make this feel so bright and incredibly fresh. Very bit the light cool climate Pinot Noir, that vitality is only helped by the wine maturation in older oak barrels (that have no oaky flavour) to make sure that cherry fruit really shines.
Tumbarumba is one of Australia's more beautiful wine regions (and we have some pretty stunning wine regions). Situated on the western slopes of the NSW Snowy Mountains, with towering, eucalypt-dotted hills fringing the vineyards, it's also one of the coolest wine regions in the nation, with the typically high altitude vineyards carrying a rep for world-class sparkling wine, plus delicate Chardonnay, Pinot Noir. What a joy it is to have a representation of the best of Tumbarumba in these Above 700 wines. A collab label between the Johansen family (who've been growing grapes in Tumbarumba for years) and some winemaking friends, this range celebrates the magic of 'Tumby' (as the locals call it) with delicate and frankly beautiful cool climate wines grown on the Johansen's vineyard at over 700m elevation.

Pairing guide
Light and elegant Pinot Noir, like this one from the Johansen family, don't need any pairing besides a plate of snacks and an excuse to crack the bottle, really. But we still like exploring the pairing possibilities! You need to be careful to avoid anything too heavy, as it will obscure the easy cherry fruit. We really like this with grilled chicken or pork, roast turkey or venison, darker fleshed fish, salads with sweet and sour elements, and tofu noodles (just be careful not to overdo the spice). You can also enjoy this red with a slight chill as a lovely refresher on a warm day.

Wine region

Tumbarumba, Australia
Tumbarumba is a wine region located in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains in New South Wales, Australia, known for producing cool-climate and high altitude wines of high quality. The region was hit by bush fires in 2020 which did affect several vineyards with devastating effect. Tumbarumba is one of the best regions for producing Chardonnay in Australia but doesn’t get the same accolades as regions like Coal River Valley in Tasmania or Margaret River. The best case of this is Penfold's Yattarna Chardonnay which usually contains a decent amount of Tumbarumba fruit blended with other regions.
