Pretty in Pink Bubbly
Pink bubbles for days
There aren't many wines that both look and taste beautiful. Except for a glass of sparkling rosé. Interestingly enough, sparkling rosé is actually an extremely tricky wine to make, as getting the balance right is an art form. But it sounds simple! You either get your usual light greenish/yellow sparkling wine and add red wine, or you use some red grapes in the winemaking and let the juice pick up some colour from the red berries. The trick is making sure that you don't really want to too much of the red wine flavours, just a hint (and a bit of pinkness). Because it's hard to get right, some of the world's most expensive sparkling wines are all rosé (especially in Champagne). With this selection, we're exploring a few of the more approachable sparkling rosé around (and yes, they all look amazing too).

In this special pack you'll enjoy: Austin's Wines '6ft6' Prosecco Rosé NV This Prosecco rosé from the Austin’s team is a lovely example of Australian ingenuity, with the pink blush coming from a tiny bit of Geelong Pinot Noir added into the prosecco. With a nice apple and strawberry balance and fizzy strawberry sherbert, this is an instant winner. Billy Button 'The Graceful' Sparkling Rosé 2023 ‘The Graceful’ is a delightful sparkling rosé sourced from Pinot Noir. With a pale pink colour and delicate strawberry and cherry notes, this fizz hits the sweet spot. The palate is broad and expressive with a creamy mousse and balanced sweetness. Hither & Yon 'Petit Rouge' Sparkling Rosé 2024 While the family vineyards date back to 1980, Hither & Yon’s journey began in 2012 from the capable hands of the Leask brothers. Richard is the outside man, the farmer and maker; Malcolm is the inside guy, director and creator. The aim is to make better wines with a lighter footprint, with a proud focus on regenerative viticulture and best practice winemaking. This is another winner from Hither & Yon, just in time for warm weather and days by the pool. An extremely expressive nose with Turkish delight, watermelon and rose petals dominating the bouquet. The wine has a nice edginess on the palate with a touch of bitterness and grip along with berry goodness.
interesting to note
Did you know that most light-coloured sparkling wine is made using red grapes? Winemakers have worked out that if you squish red grapes and then quickly take the juice away from the skins you get flavour without colour, like magic. You might see the term 'Blanc de Noir' on wine labels sometimes, and this is when you have a sparkling wine that is white, but made from red grapes.
