Pinot Noir Party
Pinot Noir AKA the sensual grape
Light on its feet, but filled with flavour, this is one of the most prized grapes in the world of wine. It's also known as a "gateway grape" for white wine lovers into the world of reds — soft, silky and approachable, and often easy to drink! There are a number of members of the 'Pinot' family, and 'Noir' (meaning black) is the only red variety - you might know its cousin Pinot Gris/Grigio or the reclusive Pinot Blanc. It has also been suggested that the word 'Pinot' comes from the French for pine cone, a reference to the shape of the grape clusters hanging on the vine. Pinot Noir is better known for its amazing, complex aromas, which can include strawberry and red cherry, rose petal, raspberry, Asian spices like five spice and Szechuan pepper, dried leaves, mushrooms.....the list goes on. The texture of Pinot is also notable, as its tannins are generally very supple and smooth.
3 perfect Pinot Noir to try
In this special pack you'll enjoy: Tierra Alta Pinot Noir 2024 Tierra Alta Winery, nestled in Chile's picturesque Central Valley, is a captivating destination for wine enthusiasts seeking a delightful blend of history, tradition, and exquisite flavours. Here, they've delivered a classic Chilean Pinot Noir, with a lovely earthy tone from top to bottom, layered with red and black cherry fruit. We also loved the subtle coffee mocha character that presents itself after a bit of time in the glass. Bold, chunky and ripe, for Pinot Noir. Picasso 'Altitude' Pinot Noir 2023 The ‘Altitude’ Pinot Noir is a bright and expressive number with dark cherry notes dominating the wine, offset by some woody spices and a silky finish. This is a Pinot Noir for those who like to play the field between French and Aussie reds. Old Mates Pinot Noir 2024 Floral and flirty, this Pinot Noir seriously overdelivers. From a single vineyard in Stellenbosch, it offers up a mix of ripe red fruits balanced by a hint of white pepper and some sweeping waves of acidity and very fine tannin. Soft and juicy, it drinks well chilled as well as at room temperature, and the bottle vanishes surprisingly fast :)
Interesting to note
Pinot Noir has been grown in Burgundy for nearly 2000 years! Various orders of monks, but especially the Carthusians, were responsible for vineyard designation and grape growing long before there was a commercial wine scene!
