Story
'Exquisite piss'. That's the label that the crew behind Sydney's The Grifter Brewing Co. stand behind, in a nod to the idea that it's ok to be serious about beer quality, but not to take yourself too seriously.
A staple of Marrickville in Sydney's Inner West, The Grifter Brewing Co. operation has clocked over a decade old and happily remains 100% independent and majority-owned by founders Glenn Wignall, Trent Evans, and Matt King.
You certainly can't miss the brewery, with the giant orange Grifter grain silo can (an Instagram smash that also helps minimise truck movements) out the front and the B-Corp logo on the website, all announcing their intentions and their commitment to taking a different route to sustainable beer production.
Notably, the trio still craft all their beers in-house, too, with a stated belief that every beer, from classics to "fruity wildcards," should leave you wanting another can of 'exquisite piss'.
This XPA is one of the more recent additions to the Grifter core range stable, with this brew taking 'the essence of the best-selling Pale Ale and stepping it up a notch - or several'.
Defined by a fruity, hoppy aromatic punch, this is a crisp, clean, and punchy brew that also adds late palate richness thanks to the addition of wheat and oats. It's a little juicy, a little tangy, and incredibly drinkable.

PAIRING GUIDE
The Grifter Brewing Co is known throughout the NSW craft ale scene for their creativity and commitment to excellence, and this beautiful XPA is a pretty solid example of what the team does best. Bright and thrillingly hop-forward, it’s going to pair really well with fried fish dishes, fiery curries and recipes which feature a massive whack of umami - we’re talking blue cheese-stuffed mushrooms, red meats with plenty of miso, eggplant parmigiano and tofu with soy and ginger marinade. It’s a great beer to serve alongside steak and chips, grilled sausages and veggie curries alike - give it a try and see for yourself!
