Story
SixTwelve Brewing doesn't look like much from the outside. It's a shed in an industrial estate at the NE edge of suburban Adelaide, where you can go from the plumbing warehouse before stopping in for a beer. But you can't judge a brewery by its address, as SixTwelve is a real hotbed for fun and interesting brews.
The first part of this story is the name - Brad Reid is 213cm tall (i.e. 7 foot or 6'12) and founded SixTwelve Brewing with his wife, Alle. Brad and Alle didn't take a traditional route to opening a brewery with tall expectations, however, as both spent their years in the corporate world. It took a COVID-era redundancy for Alle that sparked a life-changing decision for both of them to give up the white-collar life and dive headfirst into serious beer.
With the help of Dylan Randall (ex-Vale Brewing/Fox Hat Brewing) behind the vats, the SixTwelve team are now producing a range of beers that leaps way beyond anything you'd expect in an urban outskirts brewpub. Indeed, there are now 12 taps pouring an eclectic and ever-changing selection at SixTwelve, now with a distillery next door to complete what is a reason to stop by for anyone driving from Adelaide city to the Hills.
What a pleasure it is to have these hyperlocal beers at GPD!
Lanky? Nah, this is a lovely, rich and round stout that is filled to the brim with beautiful dark chocolate and coffee flavours. Lightly creamy and just bitter enough to be refreshing, this uses English hops that introduce a slightly earthy, spicy edge rather than the more forceful bitterness seen in US or Kiwi hops. Sure, it's a wintery dark beer, but don't think this isn't plenty crisp and thirst-quenching too!

PAIRING GUIDE
Hailing from North East Adelaide, this stunning stout from SixTwelve Brewing really does mean business. Rich, deep and deliciously satisfying, it’s a real winner for those who like their beers dark, moody and utterly irresistible. Stouts are always a great food pairing beer, and this one is going to taste brilliant with beef stews or other slow-cooked red meats, as well as with fresh shellfish like mussels and oysters. Smoky cheeses, charcuterie, savoury pies and roast onions will work well, and it’s also fabulous with dark chocolate and coffee desserts.
