Story

SixTwelve Brewing doesn't look like much from the outside. It's a shed in an industrial estate at the NE edge of suburban Adelaide, where you can go from the plumbing warehouse before stopping in for a beer. But you can't judge a brewery by its address, as SixTwelve is a real hotbed for fun and interesting brews.

The first part of this story is the name - Brad Reid is 213cm tall (i.e. 7 foot or 6'12) and founded SixTwelve Brewing with his wife, Alle. Brad and Alle didn't take a traditional route to opening a brewery with tall expectations, however, as both spent their years in the corporate world. It took a COVID-era redundancy for Alle that sparked a life-changing decision for both of them to give up the white-collar life and dive headfirst into serious beer.

With the help of Dylan Randall (ex-Vale Brewing/Fox Hat Brewing) behind the vats, the SixTwelve team are now producing a range of beers that leaps way beyond anything you'd expect in an urban outskirts brewpub. Indeed, there are now 12 taps pouring an eclectic and ever-changing selection at SixTwelve, now with a distillery next door to complete what is a reason to stop by for anyone driving from Adelaide city to the Hills.

What a pleasure it is to have these hyperlocal beers at GPD!

This delicious IPA from SixTwelve sits in a wonderful sweet spot - crafted with aromatic American hops, it packs in all the tropical pineapple and pine notes, along with plenty of clever bitterness, and yet all this is delivered at just 4.7% alcohol. Now that might seem high compared to your fave Aussie Pale Ale, but this packs in a bigger hop punch to match. A real highwire act!

PAIRING GUIDE

SixTwelve Brewing has been one of our favourite discoveries in recent months, and this Session IPA absolutely knocks it out of the park. Bright, hoppy and delightfully refreshing, it’s exactly the kind of craft beer we crave at the end of a long day. It’s brilliantly versatile, too - you’ll love this with oily fish like mackerel, zesty salads, Thai or Indian curries, fish and chips, veggie pasta dishes and rice dishes like pilaf, paella or risotto. What’s not to love?
