Story
Like so many breweries, the Prancing Pony story starts at home.
When Frank Samson and Corinna Steeb arrived in Australia from Germany in 1982, Frank, then aged 24, didn't think much of the mass-produced Aussie beers. But, instead of suffering through, he decided to start making his own beer in a 30L fermenter in the kitchen.
After Frank nearly burned the place down boiling things on the stove, Corinna banished him to the back shed; Frank dreamed up a label to stick on the bottles- only so he could tell which beer was which, and to entertain Corinna (‘make me a Black Ale’, she once said). The labels got more colourful, including imaginary medals not won at the time and, of course, the imaginary brewery name, ‘Prancing Pony’.
Long story short, Frank and Corinna turned a dream into reality, opening up the Prancing Pony Brewery for real in 2012 at Mt Barker in the Adelaide Hills and have never looked back. Even now, the beers have whimsical names, bright coloured labels and real character. The range is large too, with a full kaleidoscope of brews covering everything from ultra-light lager to the wild 11% Experimental IPA (that is a meal in itself).
Blaze of Haze not only has a great name, but it's going to win friends easily. It's a beer that the Prancing Pony team thinks will hook in both newbie craft beer drinkers and those of us with hop tattoos and a homebrew kit. This delicious hazy has a surprising berry fruity note thanks to the Lupomax, which is a hyper-modern hop product that gives a load of unique tropical fruitiness and great bitterness without the herby piney flavour. Delicious!
