Story

Australians are drinking less, but drinking better. Non-alcoholic beverage consumption is on the uptick. Pioneered by UK company, Seedlip (the world’s first non-alcoholic spirit), there are now a range of flavoursome non-alcoholic beverages available for anyone who is teetotal, being responsible, is pregnant, is taking some time off booze, or is the designated driver for the night.

NON is a Melbourne-based company committed to improving the offering for those of us who want full flavour and no alcohol. Taking inspiration from fine dining restaurants across the globe, the team created a zero-alcohol wine-alternative that channels the boundary-pushing non-alcoholic drinks pairings gaining traction in this temples of gastronomy across the world.

Made by chefs in Melbourne it is specifically designed to be paired with food. Layered, complex and highly refreshing, it delivers a serious sensory experience without the alcohol.

NON is in a category of its own. Technically it’s a tisane (an infusion of dried fruits, herbs and spices in hot water), but drinks very grown-up, with powerful flavours and scores high on the refreshment scale as well.

Surprisingly rich and earthy, this is probably the most red-wine-adjacent product in the NON range. It's a fascinating blend featuring plum and beetroot (roasted for richness). Fir pine needles for a little piney tang, French oak and red wine skins for tannin and bite, gluten-free soy sauce for umami, Viognier (the white grape), verjuice for acidity and don't forget the blackberries. The whole match is berried, slightly tart, wonderfully mouthfilling and proudly non-alcoholic.

PAIRING GUIDE

With all the different and complex layers of fruit, acidity and tannins that this unique drink has to offer, it's a seriously fun drink to pair with a whole range of dishes. We like going down a route that we'd often choose with medium-bodied red wines, with BBQ'd meats, roasted vegetables, and hard cheeses as a natural starting point. This NON release is also a fascinating pairing with lentils and beans with hearty legume dishes a real counterpoint to the blackberry flavours.
