Story

Perhaps you've heard of Maybe Sammy, the world-beating, prize-winning, glamour-filled cocktail bar in The Rocks in Sydney? If not, allow us to introduce you to but one of their libations. Yes, whilst the clever chaps behind this wonderful bar are most at home shaking or stirring up something magical for the few guests who grace their seats each night, they also recognise that there are hundreds more who cannot make it....but are still keen on a good drink. Enter their bottled cocktails - the exact same drinks, handmade and batched locally in Sydney, Australia using the highest quality ingredients - in your home.

The bar itself takes inspiration from the roaring Fifties, the rebirth of cool, the era where fashion and fun prevailed. A time when The Rat Pack and Hollywood glamour were revered and admired. The bartenders are in crisp white jackets, the guests are dressed to the nines and the drinks? Well, if we told you that the bar has been named as Australia's best by numerous publications and critics, that should give you some idea. Fancy living like Sammy? Be the high roller that you are. You've earned it!

Fitting perfectly in with the theme of reinventing classic cocktails, this is a very fragrant take on a Negroni that works off a base of Bombay Sapphire Gin, Martini Bitter, and Martini Vermouth, but with a bit more of a floral flourish. Importantly, this is a wonderfully bittersweet sort of thing that is refreshing because of its many contrasts, vacillating between a red berry fresh juicy note and then straight into that classic Negroni pucker. Who said cocktails are boring?

PAIRING GUIDE

The hot tip from Maybe Sammy is to pour this over ice (and yes, go with fancy ice if you want, but any ice will do) into a rocks glass - aka a low ball glass aka a small glass and then add a garnish of orange. Easy! You can then crack out the full cheese and antipasto plate, where this negroni comes into its own - prosciutto, jamon, bresaola, all of the meats plus olives (green, black, all of them), grilled nuts and other snacky things and then an array of cheeses. You can also use those cured elements in other dishes too, and watch how quickly your glass empties!
