Story

With the motto of 'In Hops We Trust', is it any wonder that Hop Nation would make a range of full-flavoured beers?

But there's more to the Hop Nation story than just big beers. Good mates Sam Hambour and Duncan Gibson are also winemakers, crafting delicious lo-fi drinks under the Site Wine label and making wine everywhere from Barolo to the Okanagan Valley.

There's a crossover with their winemaking focus on beer as well, including some fascinating barrel-matured sours. The lo-fi approach from beer to wine remains the same, with a big focus on using natural ingredients and an emphasis on letting those flavours shine with no pasteurisation and minimal filtration.

Originally brewed for the Whitehart Bar in Melbourne’s CBD, the key to this beer's success is the judicious inclusion of Australian oats. These help give this pale ale a really creamy mouthfeel, to go with the citrussy aromatics - thanks to the combination of Kiwi and Australian hops. A delicious modern hazy that has all the flavour punch, but at 4.8%, less of the next day fog!

PAIRING GUIDE

Who could resist the multi-layered charms of this deliciously expressive hazy pale ale? The team at Hop Nation have well and truly knocked it out of the park with this one, and not least because it pairs so well with some of our favourite foods. Slow-cooked lamb or pork dishes are especially good here, and it’s also a winner with trendy smashed burgers and birria tacos. As ever, all that hoppy character makes it taste fantastic alongside Indian curries - a good tandoori chicken, lamb biryani or paneer masala will all taste delicious with this stunning beer, and it’s not half bad with a simple roast chicken or Mediterranean veggie dish, too.
