Story
Why not make a traditional Korean sipping spirit in Australia? For friends Paul Wheatley & Damian Kent, this idea came after numerous SE Asian business trips where they contemplated the ultimate sipping spirit.
Finally, after much pondering and experimentation, they launched Hoju soju, the only Australian-made soju to date. Made from Australian products, this alternative to vodka is a real surprise, with all of that subtle neutral smoky citrus and grain character of vodka, yet with 16.9% alcohol!
Soju is made from rice, in a process that dates back almost a thousand years, involving a brew and distillation process not unlike vodka or even brandy. However, soju is drunk neat, and its lower alcohol makes it the ultimate Korean party drink. The Hoju soju is a clean, neutral and refreshing example of the genre, that channels the Seoul party vibes but with a real purity to the flavour.

PAIRING GUIDE
Soju is quickly gaining popularity worldwide, thanks to Korea’s increasing influence on how we eat, drink and generally have a good time. This Soju, crafted by Aussie distillers to a unique but traditional recipe, is a brilliant introduction to the style. It’s also impressive as a food pairing spirit; it’s great with all those Korean favourites ranging from kimchi salads to Korean fried chicken, Korean barbecue and Seoul-style loaded fries, as well as with charcuterie boards and medium-strength cheeses, savoury tarts, croquetas and spicy fish dishes. Yum!
