Story

Arguably one of the most pivotal non-alcoholic breweries to be launched in Australia, Heaps Normal have, in just a few years, redefined what beer can taste like sans alcohol.

What's even wilder is that Heaps Normal launched in July 2020, smack bang in the middle of the wild COVID-19 lockdown era that destroyed so many other brands. At the time, there were only a few non-alc beer options available, and it was a rarer sight to see one at your local bar and pub.

Our co-founders, pro surfer Jordy Smith, beer-brander Andy Miller and brewer Ben Holdstock set out to take the best bits of Aussie drinking culture and package them into great-tasting beers that they believe have 'helped to normalise new ways to drink and play'.

It's not all that quiet to be honest, with this XPA (Extra Pale Ale) showing off so much of the hop and malt character of an alcoholic beer that you'll need to check the label twice to confirm it's not boozy. Citrus and a bit of tropical fruit, all backed by a proper hoppy bitterness. Every bit the proper beer (with real beer flavour), just with less than 0.5% alcohol (even bananas have more alc. than that)!

Who’d have thought that 2025 would bring us such an exciting array of non-alcoholic beers? This XPA packs in no shortage of crisp, hoppy character, and it’s a great choice for pairing with tasty dinners boasting a wide range of flavours and ingredients. We reckon it’s a top choice for Indian, Chinese and Thai cuisine - especially simple but satisfying stir-fry dishes or classics like butter chicken and naan. Fish and chips, southern fried chicken, katsu curries and grilled seafood are always going to work a treat with this beer, and it’s also excellent with Mexican and Tex-Mex favourites like fajitas, carnitas and enchiladas.
