Story

With a history dating back to 1874, Gabriel Boudier (more correctly, Maison Gabriel Boudier) is a French distillery with a rich legacy. Based in Dijon, Burgundy (yes, the mustard town), one of the most famous products of the Gabriel Boudier distillery (and the region) is the iconic Crème de Cassis de Dijon, which remains a mainstay of the range along with a whole smorgasbord of liqueurs, crèmes, spirits and other specialties.

Interestingly, at the beginning of the 20th century, there were over 54 companies in Dijon making fruit liqueurs; today, there are just six, and Gabriel Boudier is the only one still independently owned, with the Battault family now running it since 1936. Importantly, all the spirits here are made from whole fruits and botanicals, with a focus on doing everything on site using timeless stills and infusions in a process barely changed in a century.

The Olive gin remains one of the more distinctive Gabriel Boudier releases, made with olives sourced from Nyons, on the border between the Rhone and Provence regions. Stir in juniper, coriander, orange peel, Angelica and iris for a botanical lift, and you have a distinctly oily, rich, and full-flavoured gin with layers of flavour and complexity.

PAIRING GUIDE

What a fascinating choice for a gin is this lovely French option. It's impossible to miss the olives in this spirit, and impossible for us to deny how well it works with olives as well! A very dirty martini is a pretty obvious choice, but we also like to contrast that textural note with fresh flavours, with dishes that include fresh or cooked citrus, including fish, salad, rice or pasta, all pairing wonderfully with this delicious French gin.
