Story

Sadly, sherry as a drink faces something of an existential crisis, with changing drinking habits making this unique wine style ever more marginalised. Intent on keeping the dream alive, sherry experts Eduardo Ojeda and Jesús Barquín decided to craft a brand devoted to highlighting not just great sherries, but great sherry casks, with their La Bota series, quickly becoming a cult producer for quality Sherry.

The Navazos label is now home to a trove of limited-edition, high-quality sherries made 'en rama' (straight from the cask) that remind the world how great sherry can be, plus a range of accessible, unfiltered sherries under the 'I Think' and 'En Rama' labels that are just excellent. That's just the start, along with a white wine project and extraordinary, sherry-cask-aged Spanish spirits, all of which have an almost-forgotten level of detail that is quite remarkable.

The 'La Bota de Gin 87 Bota NO' is a complex, elegant London Dry style gin that is aged for almost five years in a single Fino sherry cask. This unique process yields a smooth, cask-strength gin with subtle sherry notes, offering up something that is so unique that it fits into its own drinking niche - a gin to really contemplate.

Such a remarkable gin really commands a different hand than your usual 'throw some more tonic in there' style, with the gently honeyed and golden sherry flavours commanding that you level up your pairing game. Interestingly, we like this with grilled meat, especially wood-fired chicken, BBQ prawns or squid, and smoked pork, with hearty rice dishes that introduce mushrooms and tofu for an earthy mix that works wonderfully as well.
