Story

Dangerous Ales is the beer project of Damien Martin, with these delicious brews crafted out of a small brewery in the Milton Hotel on the NSW South Coast. Damien is a bit of a legend of Milton, as he also co-owns the hotel and is the head chef of the Good Food Guide Chef Hat-winning restaurant (in his spare time).

A South Coast local, Damien grew up riding the crazy waves and developed a deep love for all things wild - from flavours to food and fermentation.

Just quietly, Martin has a wildly impressive food background, including training in Gordon Ramsay's kitchen in London and working at renowned establishments like Sydney's Quay and Morzine in the French Alps. However, his time at Margaret River's Vasse Felix winery which sparked his fascination with fermentation.

The Dangerous Ales releases are uniformly interesting, small-batch (our allocation was brewed specially for Good Pair Days) beers of different textures and flavours that we really like.

Made for anyone who likes a hazy, juicy beer and wants a bit more extra tang (the X in this beer is for extra everything FWIW), this brew has a full array of tropical fruit aromas like pawpaw, mango and pineapple with a creamy palate that still manages to be crisp and refreshing.

One of many gold medal-winning brews for Dangerous Ales, this is every bit the Friday night beer - it's thirst-quenching with just a little fanciness.

PAIRING GUIDE

The brewing team at Dangerous Ales continues to fly the flag for Milton, NSW’s craft beer scene, and this XPA doesn’t shy away from making a big impact on the palate! All that flavour and character calls for real flavour bomb dishes to pair with - we’re talking grilled pork steaks slathered in chilli bean paste, homemade blue cheese burgers, smoked fish and pasta combos or fiery Thai jungle curries. Deeply savoury creations involving slow-cooked red meats or roast poultry will also work very well, and it’s going to be great with a classic butter chicken curry or Pad Thai, too.
