Story
In just a few short years, Brookvale has gone from being a gritty industrial suburb full of smash repairers, plumbing supplies and dodgy massage parlours to now ranking as one of the nation's beer hotspots.
What's most interesting is that one of the brightest brewing stars in this evolving part of Sydney's Northern Beaches is also the newest.
Named after the local sailing spot was founded by Brenton Fischer & Andrew Forster (who obviously love to sail) in early 2024 and have immediately delivered a range of brews that set it apart from some of the same-same Pale Ale feels that this brewing district can be guilt of.
That fits with the boy's intentions at Broken Bay, which was from the get-go to introduce non-craft drinkers to something a bit more, well, crafty. They've also gone deep on brewery tech to achieve that almost mythical happy medium.
You can't get much fancier in a microbrewery than a European SIMATEC brewhouse, and Broken Bay are the owners of the only one of its kind in Australia. Couple that with an ambitious approach to ingredients and style and you end up with a range of Lagers and Ales with the cut and intensity of modern craft brews but with an air of approachability.
This Japanese Lager is an excellent example of that sweet spot between seriousness and approachability, and it's very refreshing.
Made to try and wean drinkers off industrial Japanese lagers like Asahi, this crisp, subtle brew has just the right amount of rice-edged creaminess, a little grainy malt flavour and low bitterness to deliver a genuine thirst-quenchability. The only thing you need to do is serve this ice-cold, every time.

PAIRING GUIDE
We’re huge fans of this crisp and bracing Japanese lager - not only is it fantastically refreshing, it’s the perfect counterpart to some of our all-time favourite far eastern dishes and recipes. You’ll find this beer pairs beautifully with homemade sushi rolls (especially those accompanied by plenty of wasabi and ginger), as well as with yakitori chicken skewers, Japanese-style burgers, tonkatsu curry and gyoza dumplings. If that’s not your thing, don’t panic - this lager is also a brilliant match for grilled seafood, light salads, cheesy pizzas and Indian curries, too!
