Story

Few Australian craft breweries can claim the crazy hot trajectory of Black Hops.

In 2015, it started as a homebrew project in a Burleigh Heads backyard when a group of mates decided to do something different.

They started with a different sort of beer too - an eggnog stout, made with a bunch of ingredients not usually found in beer (let alone in an Irish stout), including French brandy, nutmeg, vanilla and cinnamon.

From that first creation, Black Hops soon created a Gold Coast monster, starting with one brewery and expanding into multiple venues, and went on to be voted Australia's favourite craft brewery in Crafty Pint's Australian Craft Beer Survey in 2023 and topping it again in 2024.

The secret to Black Hops going large was an uncompromising lineup of beers. From the start, the brews here seem to have a bit of an x-factor, from the extra-refreshing lager to the famed bitterness of the G.O.A.T IPA.

This new East Coast range sees a more sessionable take on the Black Hops rep with beers that feel like the taste of an Aussie east coast summer.

You only need one taste of this Pacific lager to see the vibe. Made like a classic Aussie lager, yet with an extra aromatic twist of hops you'd usually see in a modern Pale Ale. Think lemon and grain, but a little twist of passionfruit from the Galaxy hops.

Just try and put it down.

PAIRING GUIDE

Black Hops Brewing has been doing what they do best on the Gold Coast for ten years, and we’ve got to say, it’s impossible not to be impressed by their craft beer output across the decade. This East Coast Pacific Lager is everything you could want from a crisp and refreshing beer, and we love how well it pairs with some of our favourite flavours. We reckon it’s especially good with Mexican and Tex-Mex dishes, and we particularly enjoyed it with chicken or tofu fajitas, mole sauces and veggie chilli. However, it’s also excellent with grilled seafood, fruity white meat dishes like chicken with pineapple or mango, and with snapper or barra on the barbecue.
