Story
On the first weekend in 2014, when the BentSpoke brewpub opened to the public in Canberra's north, they went through over 3,000 litres alone. Flash forward over 1000 brews later, and this is no longer a small operation, with BentSpoke building a second, stand-alone brewery to cope with thirsty Canberran demand for their legendary beers. Famously, BentSpoke also took out back-to-back wins in the giant GABS Hottest 100 Beer Poll, with the 'Crankshaft' the most popular India Pale Ale for the last seven years running.
That sort of triumph is unheard of in beer, but BentSpoke co-founder and head brewer Richard Watkins isn't your everyday brewer. Twice crowned Australian Champion Brewer, Watkins made his name at Canberra's legendary Wig & Pen, one of the country's original microbreweries. He met partner Tracy Margrain working at The Wig, and the two eventually parlayed their love of beer and cycling into BentSpoke.
Credited with kickstarting Canberra's brewing hot streak, the technically perfect, famously hop-forward styles that BentSpoke are renowned have become real icons and all (still) proudly poured by Tracy & Richard at their brewpub in Braddon.
Meanwhile, Stratus is guaranteed to take your tastebuds to cloud nine! Sorry, that's straight from the brewery, but we like it. This Hazy IPA has all sorts of juicy tropical flavours, with tropical fruit notes and a really velvety texture, with the bitter clean lines that mark a classic India Pale Ale and yet the silken edges of a bit of haze.
We're super excited to be one of the first in the country outside of the Braddon brewpub to have this new iteration of the Stratus and gee is is it a deliciously fresh beer!

PAIRING GUIDE
We’re huge fans of this hazy pale ale from the dream team at BentSpoke Brewing, which really dials up those craft beer credentials and delivers mountains of flavour and character. It’s a real winner with Asian cuisine; everything from spicy seafood to Thai green curry, chicken satay, vegetable biryani or katsu pork and noodles will hit the spot beautifully. Meat pies, sausage and mash, roast chicken and other poultry and dishes like rolled pork loin or smoked ham are also never a bad option to go for.
