Details
This is a brilliantly lively, fresh citrus-driven expression of Germany's finest grape variety. Up top, we have oodles of zesty lime cordial and citrus peel interlacing with a flinty, wet stone mineral accent and a herbal undertow. This is as clean as a whistle, oozing with lashings of acidity and tension on the palate making this white wine a brilliant food option.

Stefan Winter cut his teeth with some of Germany's most prolific winemakers. On top of that his family - being of Austrian descent - have had a hand in winemaking for generations, with references to his ancestor, Werner, planting Sylvaner and Riesling vines as early as 1600! As you can imagine, there was little doubt in our mind when we finally got around to tasting his wines that they would be an instant hit with the GPD wine team. Winter cultivates classic Germanic grape varieties at his family-owned estate in the Rheinhessen, in the heart of Germany; specialising unsurprisingly in Riesling but also Pinot Noir, also known as Spätburgunder locally. Simply put, winemaking fascinates Stefan, he sees the process as a constant learning curve, and one that teaches one something new after each vintage because let's face it, no two vintages are ever the same! Stefen oversees vineyards that span 20+ hectares and his estate boasts a couple of single-site vineyards of special quality and notoriety. He leaves all of his wines to ferment with their natural yeasts; as a result, some of them can take months to complete fermentation. The result is a range of pure, focused wines that have a certain sense of being 'un-pushed'... so to speak.

Pairing guide
This gorgeous Riesling from the talented Stefan Winter is stunning! Like most Riesling wines, this one exudes a stunning balance, making it incredibly food-friendly. For our money, it’s best paired with a homemade Thai green curry (or any curry combining green chillies and coconut milk, for that matter), and will also work beautifully with Asian-style salads and seafood dishes, Sichuan fish, sweet ‘n’ sour, and spicy Indian curries, too. Classic Mitteleuropean dishes like schnitzel and potato salad will be dreamy, as will whole roast poultry, pesto pasta and many more tasty treats besides.

Wine region
Rheinhessen, Germany
Get ready to raise your glasses and clink them together in the Rheinhessen wine region, baby! Located in southwestern Germany along the beautiful Rhine river valley, this place is the ultimate playground for wine lovers. With more than 26,000 hectares of vineyards, it's the largest wine-growing region in the country, and boy do they know how to make a good bottle of white wine. If you're a fan of Riesling, you're in for a treat because they grow some of the best grapes in the world here. But that's not all – Silvaner, Pinot Noir, and Müller-Thurgau are just a few of the other grape varieties that thrive in this mild and sunny climate. You'll find plenty of small, family-owned wineries that produce unique and interesting wines that reflect the local terroir.
