Details
This biodynamic Pinot Blanc fizz is pure elegance and ready to party or impress your in-laws. It delivers waves of orchard apples, toasty almonds, a hint of brioche, and just a whisper of blossom honey. It’s got that whole “refined but down-to-earth” thing going on, probably thanks to the old vines planted by the winemaker’s grandad (respect). Six months on lees, then 30 more in bottle? Yeah, patience really is a virtue!
If you ever wanted proof that tradition and innovation can be best friends, look no further than Weingut Rieger in Baden. Four generations of the Rieger crew live and work together, blending old-school wisdom with next-gen energy to make wines that are basically liquid art. Certified organic and Demeter biodynamic (aka next-level sustainable), they treat their vineyards like sacred ground - cover crops, compost teas, lunar calendars, and zero chemical nasties. Even the vines are out here living their best lives, basking in horn silica sprays and herbal infusions like they’ve booked into a vineyard day spa. The Rieger story kicked off as a classic farm setup - cows, crops, and a bit of vine - but it was in the mid-‘80s that Bernhard and Josepha Rieger said, “Let’s do this for real,” and turned their full attention to winemaking. Their son Philipp jumped in with Tuscan experience, a winemaking masters, and a dangerous amount of enthusiasm - taking the reins in 2013 and building a slick new cellar by 2018. These days, the wines coming out of their vineyards near Betberg are among the most exciting in Markgräflerland - alive with terroir, texture, and personality. Whether it’s a zesty biodynamic Pinot Blanc or a soulful skin-contact Sémillon blend, Rieger wines don’t just sit in the glass - they sing.

Pairing guide
This Pinot Blanc sparkler is classy, polished, and a total foodie, so it deserves some seriously good eats. Start strong with crispy tempura prawns and a yuzu mayo dip. Or go minimalist-chic with fresh oysters, a mignonette with pink peppercorns, and smug satisfaction. Feeling brunchy? Try a smoked trout and crème fraîche tartine on sourdough with lemon zest and dill - it’s giving “I casually host stylish garden parties.” For the herbivores, a roasted fennel and almond salad with orange segments hits every note - fresh, nutty, zesty, and totally in tune with the wine’s orchard fruit and brioche energy. Basically, if your dish sparkles (in flavour or presentation), this bubbly’s ready to duet.
