Details
Savoury red and black fruit characters dominate here. We love the slightly baked fruit set, with attractive bitterness and tart red fruit on the finish. Nice Pinot!
Origin: Burgundy, France. Mainly Grown In: France, Germany, USA, NZ, Italy, Australia, Chile. Key Facts: As a wine drinker, Pinot Noir is one smooth-talking charmer; silken texture, soft tannins, juicy acidity and as light in colour as it is on its feet. It does have a reputation however as a challenging grape to grow - it's very picky about where it is planted and can be tricky to get right. But the toil of growing it is always worth it in the end! Nothing quite compares to the splendour of Pinot Noir — packed with flavours of strawberry, warm baking spices and elegant earthiness. Think of Pinot Noir as the diva of the wine world - like Mariah Carey - if you don't keep it happy, it's a nightmare, but if you get it right, it is amazing! More is never enough. Fun Fact: Pinot is an ancient vine, likely grown in Burgundy, France for more than 2,000 years.

Pairing guide
Pinot Noir undoubtedly wears the crown when it comes to food friendly and versatile red wine styles, and this bottle from Viña Mercedes doesn’t disappoint when paired with some seriously tasty home cooked fare. We reckon it’s a top match for Tuscan-style chicken or bean casseroles, but you’ll get equally good results with everything from roast poultry to beef steak, wild mushroom risotto, grilled Mediterranean vegetables, whole roast side of salmon with red peppers and sundried tomatoes, puttanesca pasta and so much more!

Wine region
Castilla-La Mancha, Spain
La Mancha is a wine region in Spain known for its hot and dry climate, high altitude vineyards, and significant grape production the top sub-regions are Almansa, Jumilla, and Manchuela, each with its own unique wine styles. The terroir across these regions can be characterized by the high chalk content of its soil, which helps to retain moisture during the arid summers. The top wine styles produced in La Mancha are primarily red wines made from the Tempranillo grape, including the well-known Crianza and the top tier Reserva styles, as well as Garnacha, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah. However, the region also produces some white wines made from the fruity Airen grape, which is a native varietal of La Mancha and one of the most widely planted white grape varieties in the world.
