Details
Vandal has stolen the show with this delicious natural sparkler. A blend of Chardonnay and Müller Thurgau, this stunner offers up stone fruit in spades across the nose and the palate. This is slightly hazy, with a fabulous biscuity character and plenty of concentration of fruit.

The Vandal project coming out of New Zealand's Marlborough region is one of interest and intrigue. Following their maiden harvest in 2016, these guys have been turning heads in a region that can sometimes be plagued by a lack of dimension. Simply put, this project is the brainchild of three winemaking friends who became bored of producing commercial styles of Sauvignon Blanc (they also wanted to get out of the house a bit more), so they decided to start the vandal project together. Everything that the team at Vandal does is the antithesis of what they do in their day jobs. The winemaking here is minimal intervention, with a focus on letting their fruit and vineyards do the talking. Their 'Resistance' Sauvignon Blanc perfectly summarises the mission of Vandal, these guys are resisting the Marlborough status quo, and doing it with aplomb!

Pairing guide
This New Zealand Pet Nat is one that’s well worth getting excited about, and not least because it’s a fabulous wine to serve alongside some seriously indulgent and delicious dishes! We love this sparkler with southern fried chicken or fish goujons, but you’ll get great results with loaded fries and nachos, shellfish, soft cheeses and all kinds of charcuterie. Mushroom risotto will work brilliantly here, as will green salads, homemade falafel and grilled pork sausages with crispy onions.

Wine region
Marlborough, New Zealand
Marlborough is by far and away the jewel in New Zealand's winemaking crown. Situated at the northern tip of the South Island, Marlborough is home to one of the world's most celebrated and popular styles of wine: Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. The region surmises the natural beauty that New Zealand boasts and is now home to over 500 wine producers of varying sizes, from epic, large-scale operations to small, boutique craft producers. Naturally, the region is celebrated for its zesty, pungent styles of Sauvignon Blanc, but the wine train doesn't stop there. Marlborough is also celebrated for very high-quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnay (the latter being some of the most underrated wines in the region). You will also find smaller pockets of Viognier, Riesling and Pinot Gris planted here. Marlborough represents almost 75% of all wine produced in New Zealand.
