Details
Buckle up for a citrus blast of freshness when you get stuck into Valdecaz's Verdejo. Key lime and candied lemon rind notes from top to bottom here, with keen freshness and purity of fruit.
Origin: Spain. Mainly Grown In: The central-northern Spanish region of Rueda. Also in small amounts in the USA. Key Facts: Verdejo is the pride and joy of Rueda, in the northern part of Spain. Here it achieves it's ultimate expression - nutty, rich and aromatic. It's a real chameleon of a grape, having some characteristics of Sauvignon Blanc (grassy, high acidity), but also some richer, rounder tones. Look out for complex flavours of bay leaf, almond and lemon. Whilst the acidity can be bright and tangy, there's always plenty of depth to the wines, meaning they have a really lovely texture - soft and even creamy sometimes. A really lovely expression that deserves more attention! Fun Fact: Say it with me - 'ver-deh-ho'.

Pairing guide
Verdejo is one of those white wine styles we’ll happily return to again and again, and not least because it pairs so well with some of our favourite foods. This bottle from Valdecaz is absolutely perfect with delicate white fish dishes - think silky fillets of sea bass with samphire and lemon, plaice with asparagus, or lemon sole goujons for a fabulous set of fish pairings to try. Roast turkey, stuffed chicken breast, griddled halloumi salad, crispy tofu and all kinds of spicy rice dishes will also be fantastic with this bottle.

Wine region
Castilla-La Mancha, Spain
La Mancha is a wine region in Spain known for its hot and dry climate, high altitude vineyards, and significant grape production the top sub-regions are Almansa, Jumilla, and Manchuela, each with its own unique wine styles. The terroir across these regions can be characterized by the high chalk content of its soil, which helps to retain moisture during the arid summers. The top wine styles produced in La Mancha are primarily red wines made from the Tempranillo grape, including the well-known Crianza and the top tier Reserva styles, as well as Garnacha, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah. However, the region also produces some white wines made from the fruity Airen grape, which is a native varietal of La Mancha and one of the most widely planted white grape varieties in the world.
