Details
A really pure, fruit-driven expression of Albariño. Notes of Tutti Frutti sweets and candied citrus hit the nose. Bitterness and herbal quality across the palate, with hints of fennel and grapefruit pithy character - delicious!
Terras do Sur in Rías Baixas is where the cool Atlantic breezes meet Spain’s sun-soaked vineyards, creating the perfect storm for some of the freshest Albariño you’ll ever sip. This winery lives and breathes the coastal spirit and literally feels like it's at the end fo the world, enshrouded in nature. Albariño is the star white grape here here, and Terras do Sur does it justice through winemaker Jose Antonio Canada Gil's commitment to hands off, natural winemaking. These wines are complex, with a minerality that sneaks in like a whisper and lingers just enough to keep you reaching for another sip. Jose farms five hectares over 23 plots of vineyards, making impressive red wines as well from Caino, Souson, Espeiro and Garnacha Tintoreira that are well worth a sample if you get the chance. Fermentations are usually done using stainless steel in order to preserve the full fruit character.

Pairing guide
With its remarkable freshness and brightness, Albariño has to be one of the best hidden-gem white wines out there for food pairing. It’s a natural match for fish and shellfish dishes of almost all descriptions - silky white fish like sea bass, cod and chips, crab, scallops, shrimp, lobster… the list just goes on and on. It’s also one of our favourite wines to serve with soft, fresh cheeses, and salted cheeses like feta, making it perfect with Greek salads and a thousand other variations.

Wine region

Rías Baixas, Spain
Rías Baixas is a region in northwestern Spain that is responsible for Spain's greatest success story when it comes to white wine: Albariño. The region is broken down into a number of sub-zones, each with their own unique influence on Albariño. However, they all largely share one common characteristic: proximity to the Atlantic. In fact, some of these coastal vineyards are so close to the ocean that the salty sea air quite literally settles on the fruit, sometimes giving the wines a wonderful saline, salty tang. Whilst this is quite a wet region, there is plenty of sunshine for ripening grapes and many of the vineyards are planted on granitic soils, offering up firm, fresh acidity to these wines. Albariño is commonly known for its refreshing character with notes of crisp apples and citrus, but there is plenty of experimentation at play in the region and it's not hard to find examples from more experimental winemakers.
