Details
This is a declassified red, being a blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot. This is elegant and fresh with notes of dark berry fruit and plum, fringed by a lick of rustic Italian charm, leather and varnish.
Sean O’Callaghan might be an Englishman from Somerset, but he certainly is no stranger to Italy, in particular Tuscany. Before taking the helm at Tenuta di Carleone, Sean oversaw winemaking operations at the famous Reicine estate for a quarter of a century - this guy is a Chianti specialist. Tenuta di Carleone can be found in Radda, which is right at the heart of the Chianti region, it is a town that provides vindication for just why Tuscany is such a stunning, beautiful part of the world. The estate covers 100 hectares of woodland and vineyards, with around 20 of those dedicated to arguably Sean's first love: Sangiovese. Those who know him well have nick-named him 'Il Guercio' which means 'one-eyed bandit'. Sean was born blind in one eye, and he believes that this gives him a unique perspective on life and winemaking. He practices both organic and biodynamic viticulture and his wines are fast becoming nothing short of cult status on the international scene. You would be hard-pushed to find Sean's wines because they sell out so fast, so when we had the chance to get our hands on them - we leapt at the opportunity.

Pairing guide
We make no secret of our love for Italian wines, and this beauty from Tuscany is right up there with our favourites this year. Sunny, bright and packed full of character, it’s the kind of wine that calls out for new takes on Italian classics - everything from a homemade puttanesca sauce to tomato and baked feta spaghetti will work a treat, as will cuts of roast pork with vegetables and gravy, duck or beef ragu, mushrooms with parmesan, and anything with homemade red pesto and sundried tomatoes. Delicious!

Wine region

Tuscany, Italy
Tuscany is a region located in central Italy known for its rolling hills, beautiful countryside, and rich cultural and artistic heritage. But for us, it’s synonymous with wine, mainly those of Chianti. The Tuscany wine region is located in central Italy and is known for producing formidable red wines made from grape varieties such as Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. The area is home to several famous wine regions, including Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino, and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, which are known for producing some of Italy's most highly regarded wines. Notable producers include Antinori for their legendary Chianti and Tenuta San Guido for their fabled Sassicaia label.
