Details
This is stunning! The 'Amped' Chardonnay displays a fabulous creamy character, complete with chalky elements, notes of gravel and citrus and shortbread. In the mouth, this is direct and precise, with etched acidity and freshness, a lime cordial shot fringed with a fabulous green bell pepper accent. Focused and detailed.
SPOKE is an exciting new project out of New Zealand and is the brainchild of the effective collaboration between winemaker Ben Glover and English Master of Wine Liam Steevenson. These wines are incredible and truly exciting, very high-quality examples not only of their respective grape varieties but of their region as well. Glover and Steevenson's mantra is simple, to not interrupt the natural order of their juice, fermenting only with wild yeasts and embracing biodiversity and vineyard health, instead of working toward it out of environmental obligation. The team's sustainable policy extends socially as well, committing to the education of young, up-and-coming wine professionals through an apprenticeship scheme, providing opportunities for the next generation. This is a cool project, brand new to the UK and we will be waving the SPOKE flag very high here at GPD Towers!

Pairing guide
It's impossible not to be utterly seduced by the delicious character and zippy freshness of this thoroughly modern-style Chardonnay, which is about as food friendly as they come and all the more irresistible for it. We loved this wine with a creamy coconut or almond-based curry, but it's also going to be excellent with richer fish and seafood dishes, creamy pork or chicken pasta recipes, avocado and egg salads, smoked salmon and homemade Thai fishcakes. Risotto, chicken and leek pastries, carbonara and roast poultry dinners will also be excellent here.

Wine region

Marlborough, New Zealand
Marlborough is by far and away the jewel in New Zealand's winemaking crown. Situated at the northern tip of the South Island, Marlborough is home to one of the world's most celebrated and popular styles of wine: Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. The region surmises the natural beauty that New Zealand boasts and is now home to over 500 wine producers of varying sizes, from epic, large-scale operations to small, boutique craft producers. Naturally, the region is celebrated for its zesty, pungent styles of Sauvignon Blanc, but the wine train doesn't stop there. Marlborough is also celebrated for very high-quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnay (the latter being some of the most underrated wines in the region). You will also find smaller pockets of Viognier, Riesling and Pinot Gris planted here. Marlborough represents almost 75% of all wine produced in New Zealand.
