Details
This fab Zinf is full-bodied and plush, and still vibrant. On the nose, we're talking ripe plum, blackberry and raspberry jam, with hints of redcurrant, cracked black pepper and a warm swirl of vanilla from oak ageing. On the palate, it's juicy and fruit-driven up front, with bramble fruit, dark cherry and a flicker of cinnamon spice. The tannins are supple and rounded with a smooth, generous texture. It’s rich without being heavy, and absolutely delicious!

Origin: Bizarrely enough, Croatia. Italy is home these days though. Mainly Grown In: Italy. Still a few outcroppings in Croatia. Big plantings in the USA, where it goes by the name Zinfandel. Key Facts: Primitivo in Italy, Zinfandel in the USA. In decades past this was almost always made as a blockbuster wine, big alcohol and buckets of fruit. More recently though, things are a-changing. You'll see prettier red fruits as opposed to figs and raisins, with earlier picking of the grapes resulting in lower alcohols and softer textures. The USA versions will traditionally show plenty of oak spice, and in Italy, it is made in a range of styles and price points, from easy-drinking table wine to high-quality, age-worthy robust reds. Fun Fact: The warm climate of inland California is home to plenty of Zinfandel plantings, and the burning sun pushes the ripeness levels of these wines to the MAX. Don't be surprised to see alcohol levels above 15% - these wines are super fruity!

Pairing guide
This wine was born for flavour. Big flavour. Smoky flavour. Sauce-all-over-your-hands flavour. Absolute winner pairings include: sticky bourbon BBQ ribs, smoked brisket sliders, spicy Italian sausage and fennel ragu, charcuterie boards with aged cheddar and spicy salami, and proper tomato-based lasagne. Want to mix it up? Try Korean gochujang-glazed short ribs, chipotle black bean enchiladas (great veggie option), or a smoky roasted aubergine and lentil bake. The wine’s ripe fruit and spice handle heat and richness like a pro.

Wine region
California, United States
California is a large wine region is located in the United States, known for producing some of the world's most popular and highly-regarded wines. Naturally, the region is located in the state of California, which has a Mediterranean-like climate well-suited to grape growing. The wine-growing area stretches from north to south, with the Napa Valley, Sonoma Valley, and Central Coast being some of the most well-known sub-regions. The first winery in the region was established by Spanish missionaries in 1779, and the wine produced there was used for religious purposes. California is known for producing a wide range of wines, including world-class Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir. Some of the most notable wineries in the region include Napa Valley's Robert Mondavi Winery, Stag's Leap, Sonoma Valley's Jordan Vineyard & Winery and the infamous Ridge Vineyards to the south.
