Details
Who said that fizz is just reserved for special occasions? This is an easy-going sparkler from northern Italy with lots of attractive, white peach florals and melon notes with honey, acacia and white blossom. That hedonistic drop of sugar on the palate makes this the perfect tipple after a long day's work.

Origin: The original sparkling wines were made in a place called Limoux in southern France. Mainly Grown In: These days, the whole world sparkles - these styles are made anywhere and everywhere, from a range of grape varieties. Key Facts: Champagne gets all the attention, but there's so much more to the world of sparkling than that. In fact, there are 4 main methods of production for sparkling wine, each producing slightly different styles and flavours. What is common across all of them however is really focussed, tangy acidity (due mostly to harvesting the grapes early - the acidity is needed to keep the sparkling wine fresh) and an elegant fruit profile. Main flavours often include various citrus fruits, crunchy green apple and hints of honey or biscuit. At the end of the day though, it's about those bubbles and the refreshment factor! Fun Fact: Traditionally sparkling wine is served in flutes. But if you ask a sommelier, most will tell you like they like to drink sparkling wine out of a regular glass because it releases more of the aromatics.

Pairing guide
The Italian sparkling wine scene has really taken off in recent years, and this superb bottle from Riondo shows just how good things have gotten. As with most sparkling wines, this fizzy number is about as food-friendly as it’s possible to be - there’s really not a lot it isn’t going to pair well with. We especially like this wine with tempura prawns or battered vegetables, spicy chicken wings, and fragrant Thai dishes, but to be honest, you could pair this wine with everything from a pizza to a burrito, and from lobster thermidor to a vindaloo, and still find plenty to love!
