Details
Pinot Nero is the Italian name for one of the world's great grapes: Pinot Noir - which is usually on the spectrum's lighter, more elegant side. But this wine dons a more muscular outfit, with noses of black cherry, cedar and blackcurrant, wrapped up in a duvet of chewy tannin, black olive and thyme with a faint note of graphite on the finish.
Reguta is a recent find for us here at Good Pair Days HQ and we are over the moon with this new producer in our portfolio. Found in Italy's Friuli region in the country's northeast, Reguta is crafting beautiful expressions of single-varietal wines that you are sure to fall in love with. We particularly loved their straight Pinot Grigio, as well as their earthy, light Pinot Nero (Noir). The team also works with international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay. The estate was founded in 1929 by Giuseppe and Luigi Anselmi's father, Ettore, who passed on all of his winemaking and cultivation wisdom to his children and grandchildren, instilling a philosophy of making wines with a real sense of place. Fast forward to today, and Reguta owns around 250 hectares of prime vineyards that boast a host of soil types and proximity to the sea benefits from cooling breezes, helping to moderate temperatures throughout the growing season.

Pairing guide
Our love for pairing Pinot Noir with excellent home cooked food knows no bounds, and this stunning release from Reguta rocketed its way up our must-have list this month. It’s the kind of wine that deserves to be matched with hearty favourites like cottage pie, steak and chips, boeuf bourguignon and Mediterranean stews like chicken tagine. It will also pair very well indeed with wild mushrooms, roast root vegetables and anything featuring the earthy sweetness of beetroot or yam. Roast poultry, lamb, duck and turkey are also excellent options, and it’s even great with seared tuna steak. What a star!
