Details
Grapes for this wine go through a very rigorous selection to ensure on the best quality fruit is used. After maceration on the skins to take colour, the juice is fermented in concrete egg. The result is stunning. Peachy, stone fruit aromas sit next to orange and persimmon notes and peach iced tea. This wine is aromatic, framed by a herbal edge and a pink grapefruit character. Looking for top quality pink that's NOT from Provence? This is it.

The house of Ramón Bilbao needs little introduction. This is a legendary wine producer from Rioja, and one who has been at the forefront of quality wine at scale for a very long time both in Spain, and on the international stage. The Bodega took advantage of the phylloxera outbreak in the mid-1800's, a disease that devastated most of France's vines and wine industry. In order to quench their thirst for wine, consumers started to look overseas for alternative wines to drink; Rioja and Ramón Bilbao were well placed to fill the vacuum created. This era marked the beginning of what has been a thriving industry not only for the Bodega, but for the region of Rioja as a whole. The team work on the basis of nine principles that cover the spectrum of the winemaking process from vineyard to bottle. They own around 260 hectares of their own vineyards and work with quality focused contract growers from across the region to the tune of around another 900 hectares- that's a lot of wine! Ramón Bilbao produce Rioja in what we would describe as a very classical style, if you ever need to revisit Rioja and re-familiarise yourself with its wines, then look no further than this producer.

Pairing guide
This beautiful rosé wine is delightfully elegant and fully-flavoured, and brilliant for pairing with food throughout the seasons. This would be delicious with barbecued white meats, and equally good with picnic classics like quiche. It would pair beautifully with almost anything made from ham hock and sheep’s cheese, brie or camembert, and pates and terrines made from pork and poultry.

Wine region
Rioja, Spain
Rioja (riˈouhɑ) is one of Spain’s most well-known wine regions, located in the north of Spain. The region has a long history of making wine that dates back to the period of the Roman Empire. The climate is typically Mediterranean with hot summers and cool winters which suits the varieties of Rioja; Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano. Graciano almost became extinct due to the effects of phylloxera in the late 1800s however, luckily, the variety is back in full swing. There are three main classifications of wine according to their ageing process- Crianza, Reserve and Gran Reserva.
