Details
You would be forgiven for thinking this was a top quality Bordeaux from a ripe vintage. The flagship wine from Tecedeiras brings deep, dark black and blue fruit. Textured and layered with clear use of oak that works very well with the ripe fruit. Lavender, violets and mint come together with cedar notes. In the mouth, a touch of green austerity is welcome and brings a finesse and restraint to this quite delicious wine. Just a glimpse of the talent and quality on show in the Douro.

Tecedeiras gives its name to the nuns who used to live on the estate who were known for weaving and flax spinning. The team produce wines from just under nine hectares of area under vine. Tecedeiras is owned by the Lima Smith, an Anglo-Brazilian partnership, who also own Quinta de Covela to the west in Vinho Verde and have a growing reputation for sustainability and awesome wines! The portfolio of these wines is a leading example of how to step it up, through the gears of quality in the Douro. From fresh, unasked styles of white, red and now rosé under their 'Flor' and 'Lilas' ranges, through to their complex and age-worthy Reserva. Of course, no Douro portfolio would be complete without Port wine. Tecedeiras offers a range of boutique, high quality Tawny, LBV, Colheita and Vintage ports. You will find the vineyards on the stunning banks of the Douro River, vindicated as one of the most beautiful wine regions in the world when it recently received UNESCO world heritage site status. These wines are proof that Douro, and Portugal are not just a destination for great value, but serious quality as well.

Pairing guide
We just can’t get enough of this beautiful Touriga blend from Quinta das Tecedeiras, which makes phenomenal use of this classic Portuguese red varietal. As far as food pairing goes, you can be really adventurous with this wine; it works brilliantly with Iberian-style grilled octopus and pork stews, and it loves being paired with meat-and-fruit combos like lamb and apricots, duck and dates, and chicken and raisins. It’s also a real winner for Asian teriyaki and char siu dishes - yes please!
