Details
We challenge you to find a finer wine made from Loureiro than the Gorro. This sensational white is loaded with tropical notes of papaya, guava and honeydew melon. The sensory overload doesn't stop there, throw in a pinch of saffron, honeycomb and orange blossom notes and you'd be getting close to the mark. This white is direct and precise on the palate with a very long, elegant finish.

The Portugal Boutique Winery is a relatively new player in the Portuguese wine scene, but they have certainly made a big impact in a relatively short space of time. The project was conceived by Nuno Aguiar de Morais Vaz and António Olazabal Ferreira, two friends with family ties firmly rooted in the Douro Valley. However, the pair have not been afraid to branch out beyond the realms of Portugal's most famous wine region, and are also producing some seriously good kit from Vinho Verde to the west, and Bairrada to the south. The pair's mission is a simple one; to create wines that reflect their region and sense of place as much as possible through a relatively hands-off philosophy toward winemaking. With this in mind, Nuno and António work with small vineyard growers who they feel cultivate exceptional fruit to help them achieve their mission. The Portuguese Boutique wine portfolio is varied and exciting. When you taste these wines there is a certain sense of purity and honesty behind them, these are some of the finest expressions of regional DOC wines we have tried in Portugal for quite a long time.

Pairing guide
Portuguese whites are finally getting the international recognition they deserve, and it’s partly thanks to gorgeous releases like this Loureiro from the Portugal Boutique Winery. The perfect choice for a sunny afternoon dining on a terrace, it’s ideal for matching with steamed clams and other shellfish (especially in a white wine broth), prawns cooked on the barbecue or stuffed into summer rolls, lentil curries, fresh salads, and citrus-drenched sardines and other oily fish or chicken dishes. Nice!

Wine region
Vinho Verde, Portugal
Vinho Verde is a wine region located in the Minho province of Portugal, known for producing light and refreshing wines that are perfect for warm weather. The region's name, which means "green wine," refers to the young age of the wines, which are typically consumed within a year of their production. The wines are typically made from indigenous grape varieties, such as Alvarinho and Loureiro, and are characterised by their low alcohol content, high acidity, and slight effervescence. There is a fascinating tradition of having the vines climb up high so you can pick the grapes while standing however this has mostly faded out now.
