Details
You have 'Syrah', then you have 'Shiraz'. Whilst they might be the same grape, the name is an indication of the style, and this couldn't be more 'Shiraz' if it tried. this is so good, it is dense and opulent, powerful and poised, with lashings of sweet oak that marries wonderfully with bramble fruit and blackcurrant.
Based in the heart of Stellenbosch, South Africa’s most iconic wine region, Pilgrim Wines is a solo venture from winemaker Bryan MacRobert — a modern-day wine pilgrim whose journey spans continents, vintages, and grape-growing philosophies. Originally from South Africa, Bryan spent several years honing his craft in Spain (most notably in Rioja), before returning home with a head full of ideas and a suitcase full of inspiration. Pilgrim is the result: a project that marries South African terroir with an Old World sensibility. Bryan’s approach is minimalist and intentional — he works with select vineyard sites, embracing dry farming, organic practices, and low-intervention methods that let the fruit and site do the talking. In a region known for big, polished wines, Pilgrim takes a quieter path: lighter extractions, native yeasts, no additives, and a focus on purity and place. Each bottle is a reflection of the land, the vintage, and the journey — both literal and figurative — that brought it into being.

Pairing guide
This Shiraz is your go-to for flavour-packed but not-too-rich dishes — think lamb koftas with yoghurt, grilled aubergine with tahini, or mushroom risotto. It also sings with charcuterie, slow-cooked lentil stews, or a simple margherita pizza with a drizzle of chilli oil. It’s versatile, elegant, and made for food that has as much soul as the wine itself.

Wine region

Stellenbosch, South Africa
Stellenbosch is one of South Africa’s premier wine regions, located in the Western Cape, outside Cape Town. In South Africa, wine regions are known as winelands. Stellenbosch means ‘town of oaks’ and its winemaking dates back to the 17th century. The mountainous terrain, good rainfall, deep well-drained soils and diversity of terroirs make this a sought-after viticultural area. The wineland itself is known for high quality Cabernet Sauvignon, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay as well as the local speciality, Pinotage.
