Details
This white is an unusual blend of Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc. Whilst there might be more of the former grape making up the majority of this wine, its profile on the nose and palate are more Savvy B-focused! Expect lots of citrus notes and a lovely grassy freshness. Refreshing stuff.
Pierrick Harang is from good winemaking stock and operates a very slick, smart operation out of southern France. This part of the country is a fruit basket and home to a wide range of grape varieties. Pierrick's father was the Chef de Cave, or head winemaker, at the famous Mumm Champagne house, so it is fair to say that Pierrick knows how to make wine. His style of winemaking is clinical, and his wines are true to their terroir, form and grape variety. The last time our wine team met with Pierrick, he was particularly keen to show us his sparkling wine, 'Les Bulles'. He told us that his father approved (and so did we). During his downtime, away from the winery, you will find Pierrick wind and kit-surfing. For the moment, we have brought in his 'Petit Balthazar' range of wines to the UK. These are quite stunning, shining examples of precise winemaking, his white blend of Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc is incredibly fresh, as is his rosé and his Merlot is a cooler-climate iteration of the grape, delivering elegance and class.

Pairing guide
We love this beautiful Viognier from Pierrick Harang, which encapsulates that gorgeous florality and somewhat luxurious character that this variety does so well. The obvious pairing here would be a richer shellfish dish - some kind of buttery lobster or crab creation, especially - but we also love Viognier with aromatic Thai and Chinese cuisine, too. Roast poultry (especially if cooked with plenty of herbs or fragrant spices) is always a good option with Viognier, as are silky pasta sauces featuring plenty of cream and aged cheese.

Pays d'Oc, France
Pays d'Oc is a wine region located in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of southern France. It is known for producing a wide variety of wine styles, including red, white, rosé, and sparkling wines. The region has a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild winters, which allows for the production of full-bodied red wines made from grape varieties such as Syrah, Grenache, and Carignan. Pays d'Oc also produces aromatic white wines made from grape varieties such as Viognier and Chardonnay, as well as crisp rosé wines made from Grenache and Cinsault. The region is known for its innovative winemaking techniques and is home to a number of small, artisanal wineries but is also one of France's most important regions in terms of its output.
