Details
This stunning 100% Viognier delivers in spades. Ripe, candied notes of lime - reminiscent of Sprite - leap from the glass, with aromas of lemon meringue pie and soft herbs. A portion of the fruit sees some skin contact, whilst another portion (15%) sees a touch of oak. The rest is fermented in a concrete tank with some micro-oxidisation. The result is a beautifully textured, triumphant Viognier.
Pierrick Harang is from good winemaking stock and operates a very slick, smart operation out of southern France. This part of the country is a fruit basket and home to a wide range of grape varieties. Pierrick's father was the Chef de Cave, or head winemaker, at the famous Mumm Champagne house, so it is fair to say that Pierrick knows how to make wine. His style of winemaking is clinical, and his wines are true to their terroir, form and grape variety. The last time our wine team met with Pierrick, he was particularly keen to show us his sparkling wine, 'Les Bulles'. He told us that his father approved (and so did we). During his downtime, away from the winery, you will find Pierrick wind and kit-surfing. For the moment, we have brought in his 'Petit Balthazar' range of wines to the UK. These are quite stunning, shining examples of precise winemaking, his white blend of Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc is incredibly fresh, as is his rosé and his Merlot is a cooler-climate iteration of the grape, delivering elegance and class.

Pairing guide
This beautiful Viognier from Pierrick Harang is an absolute joy to drink, and every bit as pleasurable to pair with some of our favourite dishes and ingredients. Like most Viognier wines, this one is most comfortably paired with aromatic Asian seafood dishes - crab noodles, spiced mussels and prawn curries, to name but a few. However, it’s also a wonderful wine to pair with pork dishes, lemon chicken recipes, leafy green salads and crispy tofu, too.

Wine region

Languedoc, France
The Languedoc wine region is located in the south of France, in the Languedoc-Roussillon region. It is the largest wine-producing region in France and is known for its wide variety of wine styles, including red, white, rosé, and sparkling. As a younger region, Languedoc has less restrictive wine growing laws making it a virtual oasis for progressive winemakers. As a result, you may find many innovative, even atypical blends in this region, that represent excellent value. Of the numerous varieties available in Languedoc Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, Cinsault, Mourvèdre, and Viognier are the stand outs. Top producers are known showcasing the unique character of the Languedoc region, including Mas de Daumas Gassac, Château de Saint-Martin, Mas Jullien, and Château d'Angles. Languedoc, watch this space!
