Details
This is no normal rosé. In fact, a strong argument could be made for this wine being a very light red. Regardless, it is a piece of winemaking genius. Clarete is a traditional style for Ribera del Duero with red and white grapes being aged in barrel. Wild strawberry, ice cream and caramelised oak combine on the nose with further heavy oak influence carrying on to the palate. A serious wine, a hybrid.

Situated in the village of La Aguilera in the heart of the Ribera del Duero region, Picaro del Águila is a curiously innovative and on-trend winery set against a backdrop of unwavering tradition and heritage. Winemaker Jorge, however, does not see such factors as incompatible, and effortless weaves the modern into the ancient, and the forward-thinking into the established to bring about groundbreaking results. Producing primarily field blends made from the old vines planted in the village, and making fine use of the 860 metre elevation and tough clay and limestone soils, Jorge’s wines are a wonder to behold, truly capturing the essence of the region without interruption or intervention. This is heightened further by the organic practices employed in the vineyards and the winery - Picaro del Águila is meticulously designed, from the grape to the bottle, to express every special detail of the land, its past, and its future.

Pairing guide
This beautiful blushing rosé wine is a delightful pairing for a wide range of delicious ingredients and dishes, and we had a whole lot of fun trying it out with some of our favourite things to eat. It’s delightfully pale and reminiscent of a great rosé, and pairs gorgeously with shellfish - especially mussels - anything with cherry tomatoes and chillies, vegetable terrines, classic tapas dishes like croquetas, and seared tuna with salsa verde. However, as with all great Spanish rosé wines, the options are almost endless thanks to its remarkable freshness and versatility.
