Details
The Bradford Valley Vinyard Zin also sees a touch of Carignan and Petite Sirah in the mix. This is deliciously inviting, with intense jammy black fruit, and notes of coconut and vanilla pod. This is silky-smooth, with plenty of oomph and power on the palate. A real American classic.

If you haven't heard of the Peterson winery in California, it's about time that you did. Founded by Fred Peterson in the late 1980s, Fred is a man who it is safe to say, is steeped in winemaking experience and glory. This estate adopts a 'zero manipulation' approach to winemaking, which is an ethos that puts as much focus on vineyard and specific vintage year on year as possible, this really is portrayed through the lens of their impressive range of wines. Fred spent five years managing the vineyards of the infamous Ridge winery in California - a name that is synonymous with the highest quality of wine. Now, Jamie, Fred's son has been given the title of head winemaker and since the early 2000s has been manifesting his father's philosophy. These are rich, full-bodied and intense wines with a real sense of place - thanks to their relentless search for quality and typicity. The Peterson portfolio has a particular focus on Zinfandel, as well as growing Syrah, Carignan and Grenache in varying amounts. Expect high-quality Californian wines.

Pairing guide
Deliciously elegant yet packing a deep punch of flavour, this remarkable Zinfandel from Peterson is right up our street. When it comes to food pairing, we loved this wine with roasted Mediterranean vegetables - especially aubergine and courgettes - and with hearty vegetarian dishes of beans in a rich tomato sauce. Meat-lovers have plenty to get excited about too: this wine is an excellent option for barbecued steaks and ribs, homemade burgers, meatballs, roast beef dinners and pork casseroles. Nice!
