Details
Imagine an ideal Provençal rosé - pale pink, with zesty acidity and freshness to burn. But it's actually from Portugal. And made from grapes you may never have heard of - Castelão, Tinta Roriz and Touriga Nacional. But don't worry about that. Just drink in the cool acidity, the raspberry pip and pink peppercorn flavours and overall feeling of joy you get from draining a glass.

Origin: The spiritual home of rosé is Provence, in Southern France. Mainly Grown In: Rosé is found all over the world these days, but coastal regions are especially well suited to the growing of red grapes for rosé. Key Facts: Rosé is predominantly made from red grape varieties. The colour in wine comes from the pigment found in the skins of the grapes, so even red grapes have clear-coloured juice. The colour is then ‘bled’ out of the skins by infusing the skins into the juice. So for rosé, the wine simply spends far less time hanging out with the skins! Rarely you will find a rosé that is a combo of white and red grapes – they’re not ‘less good’, just less common. Rosé is super versatile – it suits any occasion. Best to always have a bottle in the fridge, just in case, you know… Wednesday happens or something. Fun Fact: Due to its short production time rosé is a popular choice among celebrity winemakers: John Legend, Drew Barrymore, Dave Matthews, Brangelina, Dwayne Wade & Bon Jovi.

Pairing guide
This gorgeously bright, refreshing and flavourful rosé from Pedro d’Orey is sure to be a real crowd pleaser of a pink wine; crafted from central Portugal’s most iconic grape varieties, it’s an elegant stunner of a bottle that never fails to impress. When it comes to food pairing, it’s going to be excellent with all your favourite Portuguese and Spanish classics - peri peri chicken, seafood rice, grilled sardines, saltfish fritters and marinated octopus, to name but a few. However, it’s also a top match for bacon and chicken salads, pork chops with salsa verde, roast chicken and fish or seafood soups, and also works very well with medium-spiced Indian curries and southeast Asian dishes like massaman.
