Details
We said this was approachable. Classic dried florals and spice present themselves beautifully, with rich, slightly jammy strawberry and sweet baked cherry pie notes woven into a complex bouquet. This is so enticing and pretty, yet powerful and structured, with powdery tannins. Seamlessly drinkable.

It took wine consultant Paolo Manzone a fair few years to settle at his estate which he purchased in Serralunga d'Alba in eastern Piedmont. Before then, Paolo would spend his time working with a range of other producers, consulting on their wines, gaining a well-deserved reputation throughout Italy. The core idea at his current estate is to champion the single vineyard 'crus' of the region, in particular the Meriame vineyard, which has belonged to Luisella's (Paolo's wife's) family for around four generations. When Paolo realised the potential of the fruit here, he knew it was time to settle and start producing wine from this incredible site. We were immediately impressed by this range of wines here at Good Pair Days. One thing in particular that struck us - which is not always the case in Barolo - was the approachability and drinkability of these wines in their youth; and nothing encapsulates that notion better than this quite wonderful 'Serralunga' Barolo. Enjoy!

Pairing guide
We love Nebbiolo wines - there’s something about this timeless Italian style that never fails to get us excited! It’s probably partly down to the food-friendly attributes of bottles like this one from Paolo Manzone, which pair beautifully with classic Mediterranean dishes of Tuscan bean stew, porcini and pancetta combos, meaty pizzas and homemade lasagna. It’s going to be excellent with all kinds of tomato-based pasta favourites, as well as mushroom dishes, root vegetables, stews and tagines, and anything with a hefty portion of grated parmesan. Wonderful!

Wine region
Piedmont, Italy
The Piedmont wine region in Italy is a magical place known for producing world-class wines. The region is bordered by the Alps to the north and the Apennine Mountains to the south, and it is characterized by rolling hills and a diverse landscape. The climate in Piedmont is generally cool and wet, with warm, dry summers and cold, snowy winters. This climate is well-suited to grape growing offering slow and steady ripening conditions which lead to high-quality and expressive wines. Piedmont is most praised for its red wines, particularly Barolo and Barbaresco, which are made from the Nebbiolo grape. Barbera and Dolcetto are other celebrated reds of the region, and as for its white wines, Arneis, Moscato d'Asti and the rare Nascetta. Piedmont is also famous for its flavorful truffles, often used in local dishes, and pair beautiful with its regional wines.
