Details
This wine is triumphant and an absolute hit. The nose slaps, with notes of flint and sugar-coated crystalline citrus fruit. Slightly buttery and creamy on the palate but with so much freshness and vibrancy at the same time. A true showcase of South African Chenin.

Off The Record is what happens when a few talented South African winemakers clock off from their day jobs and say, “What if we made something just for fun?” This small-scale side project was born in the Swartland and Stellenbosch regions — areas known for their ancient soils, dry-farmed bush vines, and fiercely independent wine culture. While each winemaker involved brings their own style, the common thread is a love of Chenin Blanc and a desire to make wines that feel raw, real, and deeply expressive. Swartland, in particular, is the spiritual heartland of South Africa’s natural wine movement. It’s hot, dry, and rugged — perfect for dry-farming, and perfect for Chenin. Off The Record wines are made with minimal intervention: wild ferments, no unnecessary fining or filtration, and low sulphur. The result is a textural, slightly wild take on Chenin that’s full of personality and place — the kind of wine that might not always behave by the book, but always brings something interesting to the glass.

Pairing guide
This one’s made for roast veggies, nutty sauces, and creamy pastas. Try it with butternut squash ravioli, grilled halloumi, or risotto with lemon and parmesan. It's versatile, mellow, and built for dishes that have richness without overpowering flavours. Also sneaky good with roast chicken and a buttery side of greens.
