Details
Bright and zesty, this wine shows lifted aromas of lemon, grapefruit, and a hint of pear skin, with delicate touches of honey. The palate is dry and crisp, bursting with punchy pithy citrus flavours and a subtle saline edge. Lively acidity and notes of golden apple and pear make this wine simple, fresh, and beautifully food-friendly.
Origin: Spain. Mainly Grown In: The central-northern Spanish region of Rueda. Also in small amounts in the USA. Key Facts: Verdejo is the pride and joy of Rueda, in the northern part of Spain. Here it achieves its ultimate expression - nutty, rich and aromatic. It's a real chameleon of a grape, having some characteristics of Sauvignon Blanc (with both grapes' grassy and high in acidity), but also some richer, rounder tones. Look out for complex flavours of bay leaf, almond and lemon. Whilst the acidity can be bright and tangy, there's always plenty of depth to the wines, meaning they have a really lovely texture - soft and even creamy sometimes. A really lovely expression that deserves more attention! Fun Fact: Verdejo has a friend (they look similar) called Verdelho, who is more popular but not quite as exceptional. Shhh, don't tell her I said that.

Pairing guide
This zesty, citrus-led white is a natural match for fresh, vibrant dishes. Try it with grilled calamari drizzled in lemon and olive oil, or a simple plate of oysters with a dash of sea salt and lime. Its lively acidity and touch of salinity also make it a brilliant partner for sushi rolls or a classic ceviche with grapefruit and coriander. For a vegan alternative, pair it with a citrus and avocado salad topped with toasted sesame seeds - the wine’s bright acidity and savoury edge lift the freshness of every ingredient.
