Details
A Pinot Grigio with body, richness and texture?! Yep, you heard. This wine comes from Sicily, where it is slightly warmer, and a totally different style to what you would expect from northern Italy. It has a lovely, sweet orchard-fruit focus, with attractive aromatics and a lovely weight to the mid-palate.

Origin: Burgundy, in eastern France. Mainly Grown In: Italy (as Pinot Grigio), Germany (as Grauburgunder - the local name for Pinot Gris), USA, France (as Pinot Gris). Key Facts: Drum roll please... Pinot Gris and Pinot Grigio are two different names for THE SAME GRAPE VARIETY. The use of Gris or Grigio depends on which country the grape was grown in and subtle stylistic differences. Pinot Grigio is the Italian version, and is typically known for being light and zesty. Where as Pinot Gris, the French version of the grape, is often richer and riper tasting with some spiciness. When made outside of Italy and France, Grigio or Gris name is used as a marker to define the style that the winemaker thinks it suits best; lean like Italian Pinot Grigio or riper and rounder like the French Pinot Gris. Fun Fact: Pinot Grigio is not made from white wine grapes. You read that right. Depending on the region where the grapes come from, the colour can range from blueish grey to dark red.

Pairing guide
Purity abounds in this Pinot Grigio, which provides a real blast of freshness and elegance on the palate. It’s a superb wine for pairing with fresh and raw seafood - any seafood, fish, or shellfish will do - and with pasta dishes and salads which feature salty cheeses or chargrilled chicken. Green vegetable risotto, pasta with pesto, and lemon-infused chicken, turkey, and pork dishes are also excellent choices to reach for.

Wine region
Sicily, Italy
Sicily is a productive island located in the Mediterranean Sea, off the southern coast of Italy. The island has a varied landscape, with low coastal plains to hills and even active volcanic mountains. The climate is Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers and mild winters. Disease pressure is low thanks to drying coastal breezes making the region ideal for organic farming practices. The soils are volcanic, sandy, and clay. Sicily can be divided into three wine regions, including the volcanic Etna DOC on the eastern side of the island, known for its red wines made from the Nerello Mascalese grape. The Marsala DOC on the island's western side is known for its fortified wines. The remaining Southeast of the Island produces a range of wines, notably Frappato and Nero d’Avola.
