Details
A typically delicious Bonarda here from Lorca. A grape that often finds more success in Argentina than overseas, we absolutely love it. It boasts a slightly drier, more raised fruit profile than Malbec, with notes of figs, prunes and sticky toffee pudding. Dense and rich.
Mauricio Lorca is particularly well known for his slightly maverick approaches, such as the rejection of oaking - most of his wines are completely unoaked, in an attempt to let the natural flavours of his grapes shine through. This philosophy of keeping things simple and direct is at the source of his whole operation, and the results speak for themselves. Think of him as a jazzman of the wine world - taking skill and precision, then using improvisation and instinct to pick out notes you wouldn't have expected or imagined. Lorca has been making waves in the world of South American wine for some time now, having been a consultant winemaker at several Argentine and Chilean wineries where he oversaw the production of some truly stunning bottles. The Bodega Lorca is a relatively recent development, one which has given him the opportunity to create distinctive, fun, highly drinkable wines through the exploration of his instincts and intuition, along with his years of experience and expertise.

Pairing guide
If you’re yet to be seduced by the many charms of Bonarda wines, prepare to be converted. The team at Mauricio Lorca’s incredible Mendoza winery have scored an absolute blinder with this lesser-known variety, and its relatively high acidity makes it really versatile with a range of meat and vegetable dishes. Roast chicken thighs, pork chops, Greek-style lamb dishes with preserved lemons and paprika, and beef steak with chimichurri would all be highly recommended here. It's also great with bean and lentil casseroles, Tex-Mex favourites like beef or chicken fajitas and chilli con carne, and steaming bowls of Hungarian goulash. Nice!

Wine region

Mendoza, Argentina
Mendoza is Argentina's premier wine region which is located in the foothills of the Andes mountains. Mendoza is located 1000 km inland from Buenos Aires and is closer to Santiago, the capital of Chile. The region is famed for Malbec, which accounts for 20% of the variety planted in the country, yet also produces high quality Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and the native grape variety, Torrontés.
