Mauricio Lorca grew up in Mendoza (a place where vines are practically part of the furniture), and after briefly considering a career in medicine, discovered that winemaking was his true calling. He didn't hang around: he cut his teeth at the legendary Catena winery under Nicolás Catena himself, then became head winemaker at Luigi Bosca at just 24 years old, before founding his own label in 2003. In Argentina, he became known as a pioneer of unoaked, terroir-driven wines - the kind of producer who trusted great fruit to speak for itself rather than dressing it up in unnecessary oak. Then came the plot twist. An avid cyclist, Lorca crossed the Atlantic to ride the Camino de Santiago - and somewhere along the route through the dramatic, vine-covered slopes of Galicia's Ribeira Sacra, he had a moment of pure inspiration. Since 2019, he has been making wine here, embracing what locals call heroic viticulture: working the region's steep, ancient terraced vineyards by hand, using indigenous varieties like Mencía and Godello, and bringing the same restless curiosity and precision that defined his Argentine work.
