Details
Lo Triolet's Torrette is a masterclass in freshness and fruit purity. This wine boasts intense, punchy notes of ripe red berries, baked cherry pie and a lick of caramel. This is juicy and oh so fresh, with scintilating energy and tension and bags of character. We are in love!
Lo Tiolet can be found in Italy's Valle d'Aosta in the far northwest of the country, close to the French and Swiss borders. Here the team tend to a modest five hectares of vineyards, producing sensational wines from Pinot Gris, Muscat, Petite Arvine, Gamay, Torrette and Pinot Noir. Marco Martin oversees operations here and producing wine is challenging in this hilly, mountainous part of the world - but the wines are incredible. The wines of Lo Triolet are characterised by their natural freshness, something you'd expect from high-altitude vineyards. Bracing acidity combined with pure fruit-driven character is the theme running through this portfolio of impressive wine. The winery doubles up as an agriturismo (B&B-style) in a building dating back to the mid-1600s. Marco's business is somewhat younger, having been established in the 1990s following Martin's stint as a viticultural expert and advisor for the Valle d'Aosta region, so it is safe to say that Lo Tiolet's wines couldn't be made by a better, more suitable winemaker.

Pairing guide
We can’t get enough of this beautiful Torrette wine from Lo Triolet, which perfectly showcases the finer features of this lesser-known variety. It’s especially good with meatballs in a rich tomato sauce, game meats and grilled steaks, and with inky mushrooms slathered with garlic. Aged cheeses, hearty ragus, pasta with minced beef or lamb and turkish meat pide will work well, as will family favourites like lasagna and shepherd’s pie.

Wine region
Valle d'Aosta, Italy
Valle d'Aosta is a hidden gem in the Italian wine world, tucked away in extreme northwestern Italy, bordering France and the French-speaking part of Switzerland. The region is better known for its skiing in the nearby Alps. It’s Italy’s smallest wine region but a region that punches well above its weight in delicious aromatic wines. The crisp mountain air and glacial soils make it the perfect place for growing unique varietals, primarily Petit Rouge (20%), Nebbiolo (12%), Pinot Nero (8%), Prié Blanc (8%), and Fumin (7%) and other cool continental, alpine varieties. So if you're looking for an impressive white/red off the beaten path, grab a bottle of Valle d'Aosta wine and take a sip of the Alps!
