Details
This is a juicy and generous blend of Carménère, Carignan, and País, the latter enjoying something of the revival in Chile. The nose is brimming with purple starburst fruit with a faint, subtle leafy undertow. There is good freshness here, with a nice charcoal finish and soft tannins. Delicious stuff!
Chile is a truly fascinating country when it comes to wine and winemaking. Often considered one of the newest of the New World countries, it in fact has a heritage of viticulture that extends back to the age of the Spanish conquistadors, and attracted enterprising vintners from across Europe in the 19th century seeking new opportunities. One such vintner was Emile Bouchon, who left Bordeaux in the 1880s, bringing centuries of ancestral expertise with him to a new land. Fast forward almost a hundred and fifty years later, and Bouchon Family Wines is at the peak of its powers, currently in its 4th generation of exploration, innovation, and quality winemaking. The J. Bouchon label is one of the latest iterations of the Bouchon Family legacy. Spearheaded by Julio Bouchon and his children, the winery is committed to making the most of the stunning terroirs of the Maule Valley and producing characterful Chilean wines which reflect the family heritage while serving a contemporary international audience. Sustainability forms the core of what the winery does best, and horse-plowed fields and dry farming methods not only result in more terroir-driven wines but ensure a bright future for the Bouchon children to inherit and celebrate.

Pairing guide
It’s been an amazing few years for Carménère wines, and this stunning bottle from our old favourites J. Bouchon provides all the proof you could possibly need. Bold and beautiful, this wine is going to pair especially well with grilled lamb chops, mushroom recipes, pork tacos, beef ragù, any kind of red meat stew or casserole, and with a classic steak dinner served with a mountain of chips. Whole roast poultry will work well, and it’s not half bad with veggie classics like stuffed peppers and a nut roast, either.
