Dense and delicious, this is why we love Malbec here at Good Pair Days. High Side's wine is brimming with bags of fruit purity, black cherry, mocha and a dusting of liquorice. This is floral and juicy with a lovely sinewy, chewy finish.
There is no shortage of Malbec out there. Over the past few decades, this noble grape type has been adopted by Argentina and is now by far and away the country's most prolific red grape variety. However, did you know that whilst Malbec may be the jewel in Argentina's winemaking crown, this grape variety actually comes from France. Hailing from the world-famous region of Bordeaux, once upon a time Malbec was the most popular and planted grape variety in the region. Following the phylloxera disease crisis in the late 19th century, its vineyards were decimated by this event and all of the vines had to be pulled up. Bordeaux had to start again. The region was replanted with the harder Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grape varieties and whilst Malbec is still planted in the region, it is no longer the main protagonist. Step in Argentina. The grape was brought over by immigrants and now has a place amongst some of the world's most famous wines, and arguably the best in South America.

Pairing guide
Ooh, we do love a good Malbec here at Good Pair Days HQ, and we know you feel the same! This bottle is a great example of what the variety does best, and as such, it’s an excellent pairing for hearty and rich meat-based dishes, especially those making the most of game meats, fattier cuts of beef, and barbecue favourites like brisket and short ribs. Mushrooms, bean and lentil braises and bitter greens like kale will always work well, and polenta dishes with sage and parmesan will really bring out the best in this beautiful bottle of red.
