Details
Wow. This is a Sauvingon Blanc on steroids! As with all of Gottfried's wines, the 'Silt and Gravel' is made according to lo-fi, minimal practices. This white wine is packed with passionfuit, nettle and notes of acacia. This is smoky and hedonistic, with warming aromas of honey and treacle to balance out that green, Savvy B typicity.
We are in southern Austria close to the Slovenian border where Gottfried Lamprecht tends to nine hectares of vineyards found on the sloping rolling hills of the Steiermark. Herrenhof Lamprecht's vineyards are farmed organically and Gottfried favours a teaming ecosystem throughout his vineyards, promoting as much biodiversity as possible. Lamprecht is particularly proud of his Bucherberg vineyard. This old plot boasts silt, calcareous stony and sandy soils where a range of grape varieties are grown including Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Blaufränkisch. Austria is home to a pretty strong movement of natural, lo-fi, minimal-intervention wine producers and it is safe to put Herrenhof Lamprecht firmly in that category. His portfolio is a fantastic showcase of varietal character with a wonderful, unpushed vein of consistency running through each of his wines.

Pairing guide
Beautifully bright, fresh and with remarkable minerality, this Sauvignon Blanc is an absolute joy to serve alongside some seriously tasty dishes. It’s a superb match for white fish dishes, especially bass, bream and halibut with zesty citrus dressings, and with equally zippy chicken recipes too. Green salads, green vegetables like asparagus, green and runner beans, peas and mangetout, and creamy goat’s cheese or burrata would also hit the spot. Asian dishes, spicy noodles and Mexican green pepper recipes are all top recommendations too.
