Details
This red blend is basically a supergroup - Syrah, Carménère, Cab Franc, Cab Sauv, and a dash of Petit Verdot - aged low-sulphite style in old oak (aka winemaker on expert mode). It hits with juicy blackberries, blackcurrants, cherries, and a floral high note of violets, with whispers of blackberry leaf, graphite, and a little black pepper sass. It smells like summer berries at a poetry slam, but tastes like a rich, evolving story: prunes, dates, caramel, vanilla, tobacco, and a hint of well-behaved green pepper all dancing on a smooth, high-acid stage.
Few wine countries of the world possess an enterprising, exploratory, and pioneering spirit to match that of Chile. This vastly versatile and fascinating land is home to Hacienda Araucano, the winery of ambitious vintner Francois Lurton. Coming from a long line of French winemakers, Lurton arrived in Chile with the ambition to seek out the finest Chilean terroirs, and to find out just how far he could push his viticultural visions in this truly diverse part of the world. Lurton set to work planting vines in virgin vineyards, where grapes had never been grown before. Using his instincts, his ancestral knowledge and insight, and a boldness which typifies winemaking in Chile, he quickly managed to grow a beautiful array of red and white varietals, each of which have something vital to say about the soils on which they were cultivated. Awards soon followed, and Lurton’s decision to follow the principles of biodynamics easily set him apart from many of his competitors. These are wines made in harmony with nature, imbued with a sustainable spirit and an organic sensibility - ideal for getting closer than ever to the Chilean land and the flavours it imparts.

Pairing guide
This wine’s got depth, elegance, and a little attitude - so give it food with the same vibe. Think braised short ribs with rosemary and red wine jus, or duck legs roasted to perfection with a blackberry balsamic glaze. Vegan? Go for a smoky mushroom and lentil ragu over pappardelle - earthy, rich, and made to match those smooth tannins. Cheese-wise, it loves a moody board: aged Gouda, smoked cheddar, or taleggio with fig jam. Bold food. Bold wine. Big energy.
