Details
This is a fabulous little number. Vibrant, with a playful, youthful character, this is a wine loaded with lashings of ripe blueberry fruit as well as an attractive blue fruit pastille quality. Friendly, approachable and dangerously drinkable, the 3C is a great example of Cariñena (Carignan) that finishes with a subtle black olive savoury note.
Grandes Vinos & Viñedos is a collection of cooperatives (groups of grapegrowers and winemakers who band together to pool resources) that have their history over 70 years. The Grandes Vinos name is far newer (1997) but has the experience and spirit of generations of growers, and this allows them to craft wines of great complexity and balance. They're located on the outskirts of the village of Cariñena, in the region of Zaragoza in the north east of Spain. The village in fact gives its name to the grape, so entwined in history are they. Known in other areas of Spain as Mazuelo and in France and Britain as Carignan, its clusters are large and elongated, with black grapes and thick skin. Behind each bottle of Cariñena, there is a dream that has come true thanks to the union of the more than 700 families of winegrowers that make up Grandes Vinos. Sharing their hard work and know-how, to create wines that combine tradition and innovation, and have no borders. These deep wine producing roots translate into a unique know-how, a knowledge of the land, the vines, the harvests and the grapes that is enhanced today with strategic technical support and with technological innovation in pursuit of a sustainable crop, not only to preserve the legacy but also to pass it on to future generations.

Pairing guide
Cariñena is the Spanish version of Carignan, and this black-skinned grape packs in plenty of tannic character and depth of flavour. As such, it loves being paired with deeply savoury dishes of beef or lamb meatballs, slow-cooked brisket and other American barbecue dishes, smoky chicken or turkey, and lamb tagines and stews with a hearty helping of smoked paprika. Leeks, aubergine, and red peppers are great vegetable matches, and it’s also great with sweet potato and pumpkin. Yum!
